Telegram’s TON (Telegram Open Network) project is reportedly shifting its platform from Ethereum to Solana. The developers of TON, which was initially devised as a decentralized blockchain platform, have decided to transition to Solana following a dispute with SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). The TON project has been rebranded to ‘Free TON’, with the project’s native token, TON Crystal, expected to be moved to the Solana blockchain.
The decision to move from Ethereum to Solana was primarily based on scalability and speed, as Solana can handle up to 65,000 transactions per second compared to Ethereum’s 15. This considerable increase in processing capacity could potentially lead to significant improvements in transaction times and overall user experience. Solana’s blockchain also boasts a faster block time of 400 milliseconds compared to Ethereum’s average block time of 15 seconds.
Free TON’s move to Solana also includes the launch of a new game, ‘W Coin’. The game, which will be the first of its kind on the Solana blockchain, will also use TON Crystals as its native currency. Players can earn these tokens by participating in the game’s various activities. This integration of gaming and blockchain technology is a clear sign of the increasing popularity of combining entertainment and cryptocurrency.
