Christie’s digital art auction raises more than $50k for UNHCR

Christie’s recently hosted a charity auction that garnered over $50,000 in proceeds for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The event, titled ‘Bridging Worlds: Digital Art Beyond Borders,’ showcased 11 unique pieces of digital art, all sold in the form of NFTs.

The auction, curated by Micol Ap, aimed to explore the profound impact of digital art in bridging diverse worlds and fostering unity across artistic practices. Artists such as Erick Calderon (Snowfro), IX Shells, Mario Klingemann, and Niceaunties contributed their works to this noble cause.

Notable Art Pieces

  • Niceburg by Niceaunties: This captivating piece featured AI-generated art depicting grannies in the arctic, selling for an impressive 4.5 ETH.
  • Rompeolas — Resurgiendo a través de la Resistencia by IX Shells: A visually stunning piece exploring themes of identity, nature, and digital-physical intersection, sold for 3 ETH.
  • Crush by Andreas Gysin: An intricate artwork composed of overlapping coding, sold for 0.25 ETH.

The auction was not limited to moving art, featuring non-moving pieces like ‘Handle With Care’ by Vinnie Hager and ‘APT 47B’ by Iskra Velitchkova.

Impact and Support

Partnering with Switzerland for UNHCR, Christie’s received tremendous support for the auction. The sale not only celebrated digital art but also contributed significantly to humanitarian efforts, underscoring the power of art in driving positive change.
